Day 1:  Arrive San Jose, Costa Rica

Welcome to Costa Rica! We will meet you at the San Jose International Airport. Your private transfer will take you North (3.5 hours) to the spectacular Arenal Volcano area. You will leave the city behind and find yourselves traveling through small towns and rolling green hills, through the cloud forest of San Ramon, to the Caribbean Lowlands of Arenal.

Arenal Observatory Lodge / Meals: Breakfast

Day 2:  Arenal Volcano Area | Arenal Observatory Lodge

The Observatory Lodge has a huge observation deck overlooking the Arenal Volcano and an expansive garden. There is a total of 870 acres of forest and an excellent trail system. This is the premier bird watching location in the Arenal area.

Today you will spend the full day around the trails at the Observatory Lodge. More than 500 species have been registered on the grounds and forest of the lodge. Keep watch for the black-crested coquette, yellow-eared toucanet, great curassow and many more. The diverse habitat provides a true paradise for bird watchers.

Day 3:  Arenal Volcano Area | Arenal Observatory Lodge

After breakfast at the Observatory Lodge you will spend the morning at the Arenal Hanging bridges this gives you a unique chance to see the canopy at eye level.

Day 4: Tamarindo  | Guanacaste

Today after breakfast it’s time to move on to the incredible beaches of Guanacaste. You will have time for a leisurely breakfast and then your driver will arrive to transfer you (about 4 hours) to Tamarindo for check-in at your hotel.

Day 5: Tamarindo  | Guanacaste

Enjoy a day at leisure or plan for an optional tour. Be sure to explore the local restaurants. This area is well known for great food.

Day 6: Tamarindo  | Guanacaste

Today you will head out before sunrise to a private reserve to spot some of the area’s most prized species. In the early morning light, you will spend over 2 hours in the forests of Cartagena or Camaronal. Keep your eyes peeled and binoculars ready: you might be able to spot the Jabiru, a giant bird family of endangered storks with Guanacaste as only one of their remaining homes; the Elegant Trogon, Laughing Falcon; Squirrel Cuckoo, White-Throated Magpie Jay or the Cattle Egret. The cool temperatures of the morning will maximize your chances to view these species as this is when they are most active. Your experienced guide will lead you to ideal locations and use a guidebook to help you identify the many species that surround you.

Day 7: Tamarindo  | Guanacaste

Enjoy this day at leisure or plan for a sunset sailing tour. You can experience the best sunset on board a small catamaran style boat. Enjoy the incredible view of Costa Rica’s wonderful coast. With a tropical cocktail in hand, you will sit on the prow gazing the sea in search of dolphins, sea turtles, birds etc. The boat will stop to allow some time for snorkeling.

Day 8: Liberia  | Time to return home

Today it’s time to bid farewell to Paradise. Your driver will arrive to transfer you to the Liberia International Airport (1 hr. 15 mins.) for your flight home.

Deposit & Balance payments:

For reservations made outside 60 days prior to arrival, a deposit payment of 25% is required to secure your package. Your balance payment is due 60 days prior to your arrival. For reservations made within 60 days prior to arrival, a 100% payment is due to secure your package. Costa Rica Focus accepts Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. When you are ready to book we will send you the payment link.

Changes:

Changes may be made up to 60 days prior to arrival without fees from Costa Rica Focus; however, any fees or penalties charged by the providers in your package (hotels, transport, activities, tours, meals) will be the responsibility of the travelers.

These penalties will be added to your package price. Changes made within 60 days of your arrival will carry a change fee from Costa Rica Focus of $300 plus any fees or penalties charged by the providers in your package. (hotels, transport, activities, tours, meals). Changes requested while in the country are at the discretion of the providers (hotels, transport, activities, tours, meals) in your package. Any penalties or fees associated with the changes are the responsibility of the travelers.

Cancellations:

Customers are allowed to cancel their package reservations/individual package items, in writing, at any time prior to the arrival date. However, cancellation fees will apply and are calculated by the length of the notice period provided prior to the arrival date.

Cancellation schedule & penalties:

  • 35 days or more prior to departure—10% of total reserved item/package cost
  • 34 days or less prior to departure—100% of total reserved item/package cost
  • During vacation—100% of a total reserved item/package cost
